Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin said that the 2024 election will come down to whoever is the "least off putting for voters" in a likely matchup between President Biden and former President Trump.

Farah Griffin responded to recent gaffes made by Biden and Trump and suggested that each candidate has concerns with age and mental sharpness on CNN's "State of the Union" panel on Sunday. Her comments come after a special counsel report looking into classified documents found at Biden's private residences labeled the sitting president as an "elderly man with a poor memory."

"There's a question of mental acuity and age on both sides. But the conundrum of 2024 is that Republicans are running the one person who could lose to Joe Biden and Democrats are losing — running the one person who can lose to Donald Trump," Farah Griffin said.

"Neither of these are popular candidates nationally, and in fact, it's basically going to come down to a handful of swing states, who was the least off putting for voters in November. That's what we're dealing with. The enthusiasm — the lack of enthusiasm with Biden is very real, but also the number of people who could never support Donald Trump is also very real," she said.

Biden, 81, and Trump, 77, have both faced questions about their age and mental readiness when it comes to hoping for a second term in the White House. A recent NBC News poll found that 76 percent of voters had major or moderate concerns when asked whether Biden has “the necessary mental and physical health to be president for a second term.”

Forty-eight percent of voters said they had major or moderate concerns when asked the same question about Trump, according to the poll.

Biden and the White House slammed special counsel Robert Hur's report, with his legal team saying it was "inappropriate" and that it was "trashing" the president.
