The final episode of Nemesis, which reprises the ructions of the Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison years, focused on the recent history of the prime ministership of Scott Morrison, who has only just announced his departure from parliament, and whose unfortunate one-liners (“I don’t hold a hose, mate”; “It’s not a race” et al) are still ringing in the collective ear of the voting public.

The passing of time brings greater perspective, and usually some peace.

But it was difficult to summon either when confronted anew with Morrison’s responsibility-repelling self-justifications.

On his infamous Hawaii holiday, which Morrison and/or his office kept secret from inquisitive reporters for as long as possible, to the point of deception, the former PM insisted he didn’t blame his staff for that … but then he kinda did.

“You don’t blame your staff,” he said.

“Some of those issues were clunky in their handling. People don’t get everything right. At the end of the day I am responsible for all that.”
