For this reason, assistant coaches from premiership-winning teams are in high demand.

While Carlton are no longer on struggle street, they have an opportunity to borrow a page from Geelong’s playbook. It is time to copy the undefeated leaders of the league and learn from the smartest and best coach: Chris Scott.

Specifically, one strategic shift is glaringly apparent for the Blues: the positioning of key forward Charlie Curnow. He should be utilised similarly to how Geelong deploy superstar Jeremy Cameron.

Widely regarded as one of the league’s best players at 31 and in his 13th AFL season, Cameron’s versatility has been unlocked. This has made him a more formidable weapon for Geelong this year.

He is being used higher up the ground, taking advantage of his speed and athleticism to outmanoeuvre and outsmart opponents while racking up possessions. He’s currently averaging 18 disposals, a notable increase from his career average of 13.
