It’s like the line in that Bob Dylan song Motorpsycho Nitemare: “I said, ‘Oh no, no. I’ve been through this movie before!’”

And we really have.

Opposition player, on the boil, charges forward with staggering speed and ferocity. Roosters player, with awesome courage, charges to stop him. But something goes wrong in the tackle. The Roosters player goes down seriously hard and is obviously concussed.

In recent years, we saw this scene played out endlessly with the Roosters’ veteran captain Boyd Cordner. And we saw it with their veteran valiant hooker Jake Friend.

We have seen it even more recently with their veteran five-eighth Luke Keary. And, by gawd, we saw it on Friday night in the Roosters v Bulldogs match, not long after Tricolours halfback Sam Walker had been concussed in a brutal match.

Halfway through the first half, Bulldogs back-rower Viliame Kikau – one of the most devastating runners of the ball in the game – surged towards the line. Veteran fullback James Tedesco, the Roosters and Kangaroos captain, charges across and hurls himself at Kikau, only for his head to come into contact with his opponent. Tedesco goes down. The fullback is clearly knocked motherless and, indeed, fails the HIA, and will be stood down for the mandatory shortish 11 days.

Tedesco was one of three failed HIAs on the night, where players are removed from the field.

What now?
