A large fire has broken out an industrial estate in Newport. Fire crews have been called to the scene at Wern Industrial Estate in the Rogerstone area of the city on Sunday night.

Firefighters are in attendance at what is understood to be a very large fire which has broken out at one of the units located at the estate. One video posted from the scene shows huge flames billowing into the air near Tiny Rebel Brewery, which is one of the businesses located on the estate. The fire started shortly before 8.50pm, with the first call being made to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service at 8.45pm. Police officers have also been called to the scene, with a spokesperson for Gwent Police saying: "Wern Industrial Estate, Newport is currently closed. Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for your journey."

A spokeswoman for the fire service has confirmed that nine appliances and additional specialist units have been sent to the scene. It is unclear at this stage if more than one building is affected but there are no reported injuries.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed it has “a number of crews” still in attendance, and is asking nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed.

One eye-witness has told us the fire is under more control than it was an hour or so ago, but that it can still be seen for miles around.

He said:

The fire is still ongoing, but coming under control. There is at least half a dozen fire engines here, maybe more, and I’ve seen two overhead cranes. Loud bangs can be heard coming from the unit which is on fire. Flames can be seen for miles around, and there’s a black plume of smoke pouring from the building.

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said there have been no reported injuries in the incident.

Police officers are in attendance and have cordoned off an area around the industrial estate where the fire broke out.

One nearby resident posted on social media to say that he initially thought that he could hear fireworks being let off, but when he looked outside he could see a “huge fire” on the estate.

One member of the public said on social media that she was inside Tiny Rebel - which is a brewery and a bar - and was evacuated from the building earlier on Sunday evening. She said it was not the brewery itself on fire but a nearby building, and described it as "scary stuff".
