There’s a new book out that celebrates the province’s food and the people who make, sell and eat it. In 2018, Janis Thiessen, Kimberley Moore and collaborator Kent Davies turned a used food truck into a mobile history lab and they traveled around Manitoba to collect stories. After conducting almost 70 interviews, they wrote and released mmm…Manitoba. The book is a mix of recipes, maps, archival records, biographies and full-colour photos with fascinating stories that showcase the province’s diverse food histories. Everything from Winnipeg’s Fat Boys to Steinbach’s perogies and Churchill’s cloudberry jam. It’s a great read!

I had one delivered to the house the other night for dinner and it was very tasty. But if the Jets win, you won’t be kissing anyone to celebrate.

Starbucks is turning up the heat with new Spicy Lemonade Refreshers in three tropical flavours. I’ve tried two of them…Spicy Strawberry and Spicy Dragonfruit. I think I prefer my cold drinks without heat but I always enjoy sampling something new and they’re definitely worth a try. The third flavour is Spicy Pineapple. There’s also a Spicy Cream Cold Foam.

64% of Canadians say they would love to extend barbecue season. So, Hellmann’s Canada has launched a petition to add an extra day to summer. Go to Change.Org/CanadaNeedsMay0 to shorten April by a day and replace April 30 with May 0.

McDonald’s restaurants in the Netherlands have debuted a revolutionary way to attract business. The Aromatic Advertising Initiative features logo-free billboards that smell like McDonald’s. People who get within 15 feet of one of the red and yellow billboards are greeted by the distinctive scent of McDonald’s French fries. How do they do it? An employee slides a big tray of fries into the billboard which uses ventilators to suck and diffuse the aroma.
