While celebrating Thanks-giving with family, I observed two distinct culinary camps: those who enjoyed mixing savory with sweet and those who didn’t. And of course, we tried to figure out who was right.

Both sides made their case, and someone said “Blueberry Steak” would convert those who didn’t mix savory and sweet. One of my favorite dishes is Brussels sprouts roasted with chestnuts and brown sugar, so I knew where my tastes lie.

The question remains as to what most people prefer when it comes to mixing savory and sweet. Are you Team Mix, savoring the union of turkey and cranberry? Or are you Team Separate, where the cranberries and sweet potato casserole are served on a separate plate during dinner or during dessert, untainted by the savory intruders?

I wish I had the data on the majority, although it would change nothing. We all have to keep doing (and eating) what’s right for us!
