I can truly say I’ve found Yuma and its residents to be extremely welcoming since arriving here early last week. Everyone who lives in Yuma has a purpose for living here – an endearing mentality much more likely to be encountered in a small town in the middle of the desert than the large, noisy and crowded cities I’ve grown accustomed to, where nobody has the time to relax and enjoy their surroundings.

The only thing I’ve found unwelcoming about my experience thus far: Telegraph Pass. Most find the foothills trail unwelcoming due to its steepness, but I was unpleasantly surprised by its lack of signage. Appreciating the outdoors seems to be ingrained in Yuma’s culture, so its most famous hike deserves proper signage to point out the landmark it represents. Give me a map of the trail, tell me its age, its plantlife, where to find the best views and how not to get lost. Tell me why I’m there.
