Last weekend I joined a group of friends on a trip to the movie theater, and I loved that our group was comprised of about 50 friends of all ages.

I mention “all ages” because we tend to gravitate toward people who are like us, including age and other factors. But I personally have benefited a lot from expanding my circle of friends to include older and younger ones.

When I was younger, I enjoyed having older friends I could approach for advice knowing that they could share their rich experience and the wisdom they’ve gained through the years. I’m a great believer in learning from the mistakes others have made; I don’t need to repeat them myself.

And it’s nice to hear that they’ve been through the same things and that it’s really not such a big deal, or if it is a big deal, it won’t matter as much in the long run.

And now that I’m older, I want to do the same for younger ones and offer my friendship and be there for them.
